The Local History/Genealogy collection is located in a separate room in the rear of the library on the first floor of the building. Maintained by the Essex Society of Genealogists, the Society has extensive holdings in Essex County materials, over 3,000 individual genealogies and 2,000 histories of local towns and cities.

Essex Society of Genealogists
ESOG has over 1000 members and provides programs, a newsletter and other services to members. Additionly, ESOG publishes The Essex Genealogist, a quarterly journal (Free to members.) ESOG is in the process of having Heritage Books, Inc. reprint their entire publication from 1981 through 1995. You may purchase the earlier volumes directly from Heritage Books.
